Is the noise from landing aircraft measured?

The Noise Monitoring System (NOMOS) makes objective measurements of aircraft noise in residential areas around the airport. A noise measurement post consists of a mast of 6 to 10 metres high fitted with a microphone. This microphone permanently measures all the noise in the surrounding area. Next to the noise measurement post, there is also a system box with equipment. This equipment analyses the noise measurements and provides for a connection to the central computer. The measurements are currently conducted with 29 permanent noise measurement posts, 2 of which measure low-frequency noise (ground noise caused by aircraft taking off). These are fitted on rooftops or on the ground. There are also 3 measurement posts in the landing area to measure noise close to the runway.
