Is it safe to live near Schiphol?

The Aviation Act imposes two restrictions to limit the risks for local residents. Firstly, a limit is set for the total risk arising from all the air traffic around the airport. Statistical data show that the risk of accidents is highest around the ends of runways. This is why a second limit has been set, in that no housing or businesses may be present in a certain zone around the ends of runways. Existing housing in this zone will be demolished. In a somewhat larger area, the number of residential properties may not be increased and, for example, no schools or hospitals may be built.
