Has noise pollution lessened through the commissioning of the Polder runway?

Yes. Since the commissioning of the Polder runway, less use has been made of the Buitenveldert and Zwanenburg runways. Furthermore, the location of the Polder runway was chosen to ensure that its incoming and outbound flight routes run above densely built-up areas as little as possible. Overall, therefore, the present five-runway system means that fewer residents living near Schiphol suffer noise pollution than with the four-runway system. In the GPBS, the Polder and Kaag runways have preference.
