Why was the Polder runway built?

The Polder runway has been in use since February 2003. The Polder runway was built partly to absorb the growth in the number of flights at Schiphol and partly to relieve other runways, so that overall, the noise pollution around Schiphol would diminish. The Polder runway lies to the west of the Zwanenburg runway and runs parallel to it (in a North-South direction).
